Norma Jane Sabiston
Norma Jane Sabiston has been a mainstay of Louisiana Congressional policy and politics for over 25 years. As Legislative Assistant to Congressman Billy Tauzin, State and Political Director for Senator Breaux and Chief-of-Staff for Senator Mary Landrieu, Norma Jane has been at the center of policy management in Washington, D.C.
She has worked on issues related to energy and the environment, education, and healthcare. In the past five years, she has focused primarily on coastal restoration legislation at the national, state and local level. Norma Jane Sabiston worked for 25 years on Capitol Hill and developed professional relationships on Senate Committees such as the Energy Committee, Appropriations Committee and Armed Services Committee.
She was instrumental in helping Senator Landrieu secure OCS revenue sharing for the Gulf Coast, the Domenici Landrieu Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act, S3711 and many other legislative issues important to Louisiana and the Gulf Coast primarily in the energy and environmental issue area. As Chief of Staff her role was to oversee the administration of a 42 person staff in Washington, DC and Louisiana, to develop and coordinate a strategic policy agenda and oversee the appropriations process including 13 Senate Committees.
As Field Director for Senator J. Bennett Johnston and Campaign Manager for Senators Breaux and Landrieu’s successful Senate bids and Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu’s statewide and mayoral campaigns, Norma Jane has cemented her reputation as an organizer, and strategic thinker.
Norma Jane’s desire to help New Orleans and Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita led her back home to join Marmillion + Company (MCO) as Vice President. At MCO, Norma Jane represented the America’s WETLAND Campaign to Save Coastal Louisiana, which allowed her to assist in the creation of the Women of the Storm and the Coast Guardians and other organizations and initiatives, to advocate for a steady stream of revenue to restore Louisiana’s coastline and provide necessary hurricane protection.
Recently, Norma Jane has established an independent consultant company Sabiston Consultants, which is focused on public affairs and political consulting.
