Flight Control Analysis Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Flight control is dependent upon lift, drag, and pitch, roll, and yaw moments at a range of operating conditions and angles of attack.  A validated, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool can provide useful information on the flight characteristics of a vehicle by providing lift and drag forces and moments on the vehicle in addition to providing an overall solution to the aerodynamic environment affecting the vehicle stability.  Furthermore, it can be used for predictive analyses where experimental testing would be too costly.  This capability can be applied to a range of applications requiring controlled flight, including:
