In-Space Propulsion System

As part of the Secondary Payload Deployment System program, we assist in the assessment of cubesat propulsion systems being developed for the EM-1 mission. These propulsion systems cover compressed cold gas systems, pressurized water system, iodine ion propulsion systems, solar sail propulsion, and “green propellant” (ADN) propulsion systems. Since the propulsion system have been restricted from CubeSats in the past, this is a wholly new field in propulsion technology.

Trades have been performed on a number of launch vehicle system and subsystem interfaces for technical issues. Other trades performed were related to the development of the cubesat deployment system and several of the components within the system. Additional trades have been covered for nuclear thermal propulsion in order to determine the best possible reactor/motor configuration to meet the most needed mission issues.
